| Left at 10:00 arrived at 16:00. Up to a rainy day, the kids were in bed and decided to leave them there till we had breakfast. We went into first lock with a cruiser and Kookaburra nb, it was a lady lockie, Amelia popped head out of cratch and took photos and Charl had shower on the move. Before we entered the lock I met the owners of Howling Gale a beautiful Dutch Barge which we have seen everytime we have visited and which I have admired every time. They have two dogs a Black Standard Poodle and a Black Pomeranian with a dead leg ( he had run in with a car so has injured back and therefore leg doesnt work) he is 13 and although disabled still bounces around. They admired Esmerelda and said they miss their narrowboat and are seriously thinking of getting a runaround, as of course they cant go far in the barge. Also chatted as we were getting in to lock to a couple from Birmingham, they had done the London Trip so we compared notes. We did the second lock with more boats and went onto a lovely piece of river, it was really wet and Charlotte spent most of the journey inside the boat and Amelia kept popping out to photograph the wild life. Along the river we saw a pair of Egrets, another first, further along we saw a single Egret so I was well pleased, also saw a small flock of Egyptian Geese ( they must be following us from London) We stopped at Bullholme lock for water as we had run clean out, I had to clean the fridge out on the way as the cream had dripped all down the inside, so guess this is where the water went. We arrived at Newark Marina (Kings) at 4 and Derek dropped me off to find where we were to moor (Pontoon 41) next to a burgandy Dutch barge on a very wobbly pontoon,we were both saturated, Derek more than me as he had been standing in it all day so warm drinks were called for. |
