| Left at 9:30 arrived at 15:00. It had rained all night so we thought it may be cooler today, it was a bit and we didnt have any further rain all day. We did Sawley well, its a pair of double locks and they are automated, the right hand side was full for us so the kids did the buttons and as it opened up to the river the lockie came out to finish it for us, perfect timing. I really like this piece of water its lovely and there were lots of wild life, swans, geese, moorhens and we saw a Grebe giving its baby a fish, we came through the lock with Kookaburra NB, it was a live aboard with man, woman, brother in law and of course a dog, another Jack Russell who was a bit naughty, he got off at locks and they had a time of it trying to make him get back on. We went through Beeston together, this is a strange lock as it only controls about 6 to a 1ft of water but as it comes off the river you have to leave certain paddles up as you leave to keep the water flowing through the pound apparently ??? It also had its own fixed windlasses? We stopped at Sainsburys for provisions and Derek went to Currys for a lead, something to do with computer!. We shared Castle Lock with Kookaburra and at the last lock they did it for us to go out on to the river as they were filling up with water before going to the right towards Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, we went left to Holme Lock (Pierrepoint International Water Sport Centre) Kids have been fishing, feeding wildlife, watering plants, eating icecreams and collecting ladybirds (101 in a jar) they have let them go after taking photos, Amelia thinks they were mating but who knows!!! |
